COURSE DESCRIPTION
This foundational course examines optimal adult health and its alterations. Students utilize the nursing process
in supporting the health and well-being of individuals, families, and communities. Emphasis is placed on the art and
science of nursing as it applies to health promotion and disease prevention. Experiential learning, including skills
laboratory, simulation, and clinical and community-based settings, serves to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes
inherent in the profession of nursing. Students work in collaboration with individuals, families, and communities and
other members of the interprofessional team to support achievement of the highest level of client wellness.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Deliver safe, evidenced-based nursing care utilizing the nursing process and clinical reasoning skills.
2. Demonstrate safe and confidential use of client information and client care technology.
3. Communicate and collaborate effectively with health care team members and individuals, families,
and communities.
4. Demonstrate professional behaviors that reflect the values inherent to the practice of nursing.
5. Identify strategies that promote healthy behaviors for self and individuals, families, and communities.
