NL Module 3 & 4 Reflection

For module 3, Knowledge and Clinical Judgement, I learned a lot about the type of thinking that you must do to excel in the healthcare environment. You always must keep in mind Maslow’s Hierarchy, ABC, and just think about things through a nursing scope which can be hard to master. In order to think like a nurse, you have to focus on what the problem is and think about ways to improve that problem for the patient. Another important. aspect is setting goals for the patient and keeping patients happy and healthy while caring for them. As we get further into this semester, I think everyone in my class is getting better at this way of thinking from doing it in clinical and practicing it in class frequently. Our professors always prompt us and ask us questions in ways that makes us really think like a nurse which is so helpful.

For module 4, priority setting frameworks, I thought that this was the most important module. Most of the NCLEX questions are priority setting based where you must pick the answer of the action that you would do first or what patient you would see first. This is one of the most important aspects of nursing because most likely every patient you have will be sick, but you must make sure you prioritize your care. You also have to plan care based on what patient is in most need because you as one nurse can’t always be in every patient’s room. We provide the best care that we can as nurses by prioritizing and accomplishing what needs to be done to keep all patients safe and on the road to recovery. This is also an important part of forming your thinking to be like a nurse and increasing your ability to take care of more patients while still providing the best care that you can for them.

Collaboration in Nursing (A)

I chose the song Monster by Rihanna and Eminem. Eminem and Rihanna have different musical styles, Eminem is a rapper and Rihanna is known for singing pop. Rihanna and Eminem have collaborated for multiple songs, but this song is a good representation of collaboration because they are discussing difficult topics like mental health and the struggles of fame and relating their own struggles to each other. In the song Eminem sings about the difficulties of living in fame and what it can do to a person and Rihanna talks about her own personal struggles with mental health which are represented in the song as monsters under her bed. They sing about the balance between success and fame, and sanity and insanity. . I love when artists with different styles work together to make a song because it brings in different sounds to make something new. This is a good lesson for professional collaboration because a coworker or colleague will probably bring some new knowledge to the table that you do not have and vice versa. Collaborating with other minds always results in an abundance of more knowledge and ideas than you would have just thinking about something on your own.

Module 1 & 2 Reflections

Module 1 taught about testing and remediation skills. It touched upon skills for good study habits, preparing for tests properly, and using good test taking strategies to perform well on the test. Something that I have struggled with in the past is test anxiety and this module goes over how to alleviate that anxiety. It said to relax muscles, use positive self talk, and focus on one question at a time. These skills have helped me in my nursing exam because I would get overwhelmed by the amount of questions and completely focusing on one at a time really helps me. Another important thing for nursing questions is to reread the question multiple times because it is easy to look over if the question is asking for the right answer or for the answer that is incorrect. These test taking skills will benefit me when taking the NCLEX and strengthening these skills before that exam is my goal.

Module 2 was about nursing concepts which discusses different aspects that are important to the nursing profession such as inter-professionalism, safety, client centered care, evidence based practice, quality improvement, informatics, client education, professionalism, leadership, and priority setting. The concepts that stood out the most to me were inter-professionalism, client centered care, and client education. Inter-professionalism is extremely important because healthcare settings do not work without many different professions all working together to provide care for individuals. As a nurse you have to be a patient advocate and make sure the patient is receiving the care that they require from other healthcare professionals. In nursing school we start learning this by constantly working with our peers in labs and in classes to get used to working with others. Nursing also focuses on the caring aspect of working with clients while other healthcare professionals focus more on curing. This makes client centered care and education from the nurses critical for clients to feel fully taken care of and comfortable.
